Sine Wave Solar Power Inverter solar inverters produce high quality AC voltage waveforms with low total harmonic distortion (THD), similar to your local power or utility company. Use them when you need a clean sine wave output to operate sensitive devices such as electronics, printers, copiers, and stereo systems.


Most power companies need pure or true sine wave power inverters as part of a grid-connected photovoltaic solar system. Due to its better internal electronic circuitry, the cost of a sine wave inverter of the same power is much higher than previous models. Their output voltage can be controlled in square wave mode or pulse width modulation (PWM) mode.


In a PWM pure sine wave circuit, the output voltage and frequency are controlled by changing the duty cycle of the high frequency pulse. The cutoff voltage is then passed through the output LC low pass filter network to produce a clean sinusoidal output. This allows for good control of the output voltage and frequency, ensuring that any AC load within the inverter's power limit is working properly. Pure sine wave inverters are generally not suitable for domestic solar energy because they are too expensive and inefficient, but use "stepped" sine wave inverters.


Only high-end, high-quality inverters actually provide pure sine waves as their output waveform. In addition, some high-end pure sine wave inverters have solar tracking circuits or built-in maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to optimally operate electrical solar tracking PV arrays.


Most sinusoidal models sold on the market produce variations of the improved sinusoidal inverter described above. Their voltage outputs are not pure sine waves, but they can operate on almost any voltage that can be connected to the local grid. In terms of efficiency, sine wave inverters outperform pure sine wave inverters.
